Letting Go of Kids' Art: Take a Photo, Give Thanks, Release

The struggle is real, I get it!

While packing our Christmas decorations earlier this month, my husband and I set aside items we no longer use. I held the item pictured here, a decoration our son made when he was six.

It’s a piece of wood about 4x6” which we set out for years, but it’s been left in the decorations box for a while now. It isn’t appropriate to donate, but I couldn’t quite put it in the trash yet either. “I know how my clients feel!”

I said to my husband, thinking of all of you who have held treasures, wondering what to do with them. Following my own advice, a week later I took a picture, gave thanks for that time in our lives, and let it go.

After all, we can’t take it all with us, can we?
