The “Spiritual Work” of Creating Order

Before yoga this week, a friend excitedly told me how great she felt after organizing a supply closet at work. After class she sent me two pictures – before and after – with this message:

“I feel so much lighter and better in the space. Got rid of a ton. It’s genuinely spiritual work.”

I couldn’t agree more. It’s heartwarming how often friends and clients share how much better they feel after getting rid of things they no longer need, establishing order, and reclaiming space.

Not everyone considers it “spiritual work,” but it certainly is work that gets to the heart of how you feel in your space. Our external environment has a significant impact on how we feel, even for those who have a higher tolerance for clutter. Establishing order creates a peaceful feeling that is an antidote to the stressors of life.

You don’t need to hire a professional organizer to get that peaceful feeling. There are all kinds of resources to help you declutter and organize, some of which I’ve shared through the Spirit & Space blog and emails. Books, websites, articles, social media tips and videos…you name it.
